Twenty-four questions, four for each chapter of Inside the Brain. Take them all, or pick one chapter. After each answer you'll see a short explanation, so you learn something even when you guess wrong.
Earn a certificate: take all six chapters in one sitting and score 18 or more out of 24. Score 21 or more for Honors, and all 24 to become a Brain Master.

About this quiz
Every question comes from the content of Inside the Brain, an educational overview written for teaching rather than clinical or research use. Where each brain region sits and its main functions are well established. Linking regions to needs, stages, themes and kinds of memory is simplified: these are "regions associated with" each topic, not settled science, and brain regions work in networks.
This quiz is not diagnostic or medical advice. If addiction touches your life, in the United States you can call or text the SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357, free and open at all hours. If stress feels overwhelming, you can call or text 988 at any time if you are in crisis. Outside the United States, contact your local emergency number or health service.
Accessibility
This quiz was built to be accessible: it works from the keyboard and is built for screen readers. It has been checked with automated accessibility tools, but it has not had a formal accessibility audit.
Learn more about the accessibility features
- Keyboard: every control is an ordinary button or link, with a visible focus outline. You can also press 1 to 4 (or A to D) to answer, and Enter to go to the next question.
- Screen readers: each question is announced with its number and chapter, and your result is announced as soon as you answer. Focus moves to the explanation, then to the next question.
- Not color alone: right and wrong answers are also labeled in words, not just shown in green and red.
- No time limit: take as long as you like on every question.
- Color contrast: text meets at least 4.5:1 against its background, and control borders meet at least 3:1.
- Sound: soft tones confirm your answer and your final score. They never carry information on their own, since every result is also shown and announced in words. The Sound button turns them off, and the setting is shared with the 3D brain page.
- Motion: the confetti for a perfect score is short and clears itself. If your device asks for reduced motion, there is no confetti, and the progress bar changes instantly instead of animating.
- Certificates: the certificate is ordinary text that screen readers can read, and it can also be saved as an image to keep or share.
- Target size: answer buttons are at least 44 pixels tall.
